Brazilian Beach Ball Playing

Soccer Extreme : A new sport has swept the beaches of Brazil called “altinho” which is essentially just a fancy way of saying people are juggling soccer balls on the beaches. However, as the city of Rio starts its preparations for the 2016 Olympics, police are cracking down on the game, declaring ball games on the beach “undesirable activities.”

Among the other things being cracked down on the beach, are the vendors selling shrimp or cheese on skewers, as well as radios and coolers also being banned from the sandy shores.

Of course, Rio citizens are rebelling against these regulations and are continuing to enjoy the beaches as they have for decades. In the meantime altinho games pop up all over the place and remains a favored beach activity for skimpily-clad Brazilians everywhere.

Cristiano Ronaldo's New Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly FG II Boot Launch

Soccer Extreme : Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, the current top scorer in Spain’s La Liga, is a very fancy man. This much we know. But what I didn’t know till just a little while ago was how fancy he was.

Nike has designed a new boot, the CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II specifically for him. The last time Nike did that for a player was when Ronaldinho was good. (Incidentally, Ronaldinho was just called up to the Brazil squad.) He’ll debut the boots in the Madrid derby (against Atlético, of course) on November 7.

The boots… well, they’re certainly unique-looking. A recent poll on as.com, one of the two big Madrid-based sports newspapers, shows that only 35 percent of respondents were keen on the pattern.

The leopard skin is a bold choice, yes, but the print doesn’t necessarily concern us here. We’re not the fashion police.

“Nice boots,” says Cristiano. Clearly he likes ‘em.

No, what does concern us is the use of something called Nike Sense adaptive traction system, a technology that dynamically expands and retracts the studs on the bottom of the boot. So, depending on whether Cristiano is sprinting at full speed down the touchline, or if he’s waiting in mid-field for a pass, you know, the studs will react in kind. Different scenarios requires different tractions.

The boot also uses Nike’s Flywire, a carbon chassis of sorts that, among other things, keeps the foot closer to the ground as Cristiano is running about.

And here’s a video that describes, in greater detail, exactly what’s going on with the boots.

So, come November 7 be sure to look closely at Cristiano’s boots. You’ll be like, “Oh, yeah, those are the boots I read on CG that day.”

Which is all you can ask for, really.

The boot will be available to the public at large on November 15.

And, uh, I think one of the 8 million scripts our site runs may be fiddling with the ability of the videos to load, so you may have to ctrl-r a few times to get them working. (crunchgear)

Couple’s Live Sex Show In Pizza Express Manchester

Soccer Extreme : Two workers of a Pizza Express in Britain have been suspended after they were spotted having sex inside the closed outlet by passers-by.

The two were so overcome by lust they forgot they could be seen through the window of the brightly lit restaurant in King Street, Manchester, and they never realised that witnesses were taking their pictures.

"They're mortified. The management have identified them and spoken to both. Now they fear for their jobs - and what their families will think of them," the Sun quoted an employee as saying.

"They never realised pictures were being taken. No one can believe that they were so brazen. They're both single - so at least they haven't got any explaining to do to partners," the worker added.

The lovers romped in the early hours of October 24 after other staff and customers had left.

"We can confirm that two employees have been suspended following inappropriate behaviour," a Pizza Express spokesman stated. (ANI)

Footballers pose nude for sexy calendar

Soccer Extreme : Ten female footballers from Union Deportiva Naquera club in Valencia, posed naked for a sexy calendar. The idea is to raise funds to improve the club.

Merry Christmas from Union Deportiva Naquera

The players decided to remove their sports uniforms to pose for the calendar, which will have one thousand copies and will cost five euros.

Some fans complained that some girls weren’t present at the shoot. The problem was that some of the girls were minors.

Some are workers, other students. All women are between 19 and 33 years old. Some are also mothers. Here you may judge whether running after the ball bears fruit. (momento24)

Preview : Bolton W v Liverpool, October 31, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Even if it means continuing to drive yourself crazy with the dissonance—I want Liverpool to win. I don’t want Roy Hodgson to stay. If Liverpool wins, Roy Hodgson might stay. If Liverpool loses, Roy Hodgson might go. Mighty clear, then.

Brief kudos to Noel for doing a fabulous job this week keeping us all up to speed on the comings and goings off the pitch. As I mentioned last week, he’s going to be covering most of that stuff while I try to get my head around the seemingly infinite amount of shit that I have to get done over the next little while. In my experience the day-to-day minutiae is the most difficult to write about, particularly when the person creating most of the news has a habit of creating goosebumps even with the simplest of comments. “A lot more expensive failures,” he says.

Anyhow, very grateful for the work Noel’s been doing, and I can tell by the response from those who keep coming back that others feel similarly.

I think we can all agree that it’s time to get back to action, though, and tomorrow presents Liverpool with a difficult test. Blackburn at Anfield was one thing—an opposition that’s not fond of pressing with a manager who’s got the tactical sense of a rock is never a great combination, as we’ve seen in the first few months of Liverpool’s season.

But Owen Coyle and Bolton, as others have noted previously, present a plenty different task than Allardyce and Rovers. Coyle briefly inspired at Burnley before leaving for pastures of a slightly greener shade at Bolton, and after arriving he did a bit of renaissance work to bring a more fluid, attacking style to the club. The easy money’s on him to do this again tomorrow, and for anyone following Liverpool under Roy Hodgson, that’s not the most promising prospect. Whereas Allardyce seemed content to Hodgson it at Anfield and lay the blame on missing his two first-choice central defenders, I can hardly see Coyle letting Liverpool completely dictate the pace.

Coyle’s been remarkably consistent with his team selection so far—nine players have started all nine Premier League matches this season, and Jussi Jaaskelainen and Gary Cahill have started seven a piece to round out a familiar eleven. Without any major injury news, it’s likely to be the same thing on repeat for Coyle, which means that in attack we’ll see Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander up front, Lee Chung-Yong and Martin Petrov wide, and Stuart Holden and the tough-tackling Fabrice Muamba in the middle.

Finally some proper TV coverage for this one—Sky Sports 1 in the UK and Fox Soccer Channel stateside. Later than usual kickoff time in the US because of the time change in the UK, which is welcomed after a few early-morning debacles recently. Italy given 3-0 win after violence in Serbia game

Soccer Extreme : UEFA on Friday ordered Serbia to play a home match behind closed doors and awarded Italy a 3-0 win after their Euro 2012 qualifier three weeks ago was cancelled because of crowd trouble.

The Serbian Football Federation (FSS) were ordered to play two home matches in an empty stadium, with one match suspended for two years.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) were also sanctioned with one home match behind closed doors but the penalty was suspended for two years, European football's governing body said in a statement.

"The Control and Disciplinary Body has decided to award the match as a 3-0 forfeit win to Italy," they added.

"The Football Association of Serbia has been ordered to play its next two home matches behind closed doors. From this sanction, a one-match ban is deferred for a probationary period of two years."

The FSS was fined 120,000 euros, while their Italian counterparts were hit with a 100,000 euro fine.

FSS chairman Tomislav Karadzic expressed disappointment at the decision.

"I think the decision is not correct, especially the move to register the game as an official 3-0 win for Italy, but the other part of the decision was expected," he told reporters.

"We will give our final statement after receiving a detailed explanation from UEFA."

Serbia coach Vladimir Petrovic said the outcome was "not as bad as it could have been," but FSS secretary general Zoran Lakovic hinted that his organisation could launch an appeal.

"Of course, we have a right to appeal and we will consider all aspects and make our decision on future steps," he said.

The Italian authorities were pleased with the outcome of the investigation.

"UEFA appreciated the excellent work our delegation did in showing that the Italian Football Federation did the best possible in the dramatic circumstances of that night," said FIGC general manager Antonello Valentini.

"There should be no fears about Serbia-Italy being played with open doors as we've shown that we want to maintain excellent relations with the team, staff and the true fans of Serbia."

Italian security chief Roberto Massucci said there would be better co-operation between the two associations for the return match in Belgrade in October 2011.

"The administrative penalty was inevitable given the principle of objective responsibility," he said.

"We won't repeat the crossed wires in the communication between the Serbian and Italian authorities in the return match."

The Group C game in Genoa on October 12 was delayed then abandoned by the referee after just six minutes due to Serbian fans throwing flares onto the pitch and at rival Italy supporters.

Sixteen people were hospitalised after Serbian fans then clashed with Italian police, while at least 17 Serbian supporters were arrested.

Serbian police also arrested 35 away fans when they returned from Italy.

The FSS had claimed their Italian counterparts were responsible for the crowd disorder, saying they had informed them of away supporters who were planning to cause trouble.

Under UEFA's rules, the sanctions available had ranged up to a stadium closure or disqualification from Euro 2012 as well as exclusion from future competitions. (kickoff)

Preview and Live Stream : AC Milan v Juventus FC, October 30, 2010

Soccer Extreme : AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta is relishing the prospect of facing Alessandro Del Piero at the San Siro. The striker is looking for the goal that will make him Juventus' all-time top scorer in Serie A.

The 35-year-old moved level with club legend Giampiero Boniperti when he came off the bench to notch his 178th top-flight goal during Juve's 4-0 victory over Lecce on October 17.

Nesta, who along with Del Piero helped Italy win the World Cup four years ago, said: "I face Del Piero with great pleasure. "I am happy he still has a starring role in his team. "I've known him forever, as a rival and as a (national) team-mate. "I like him. He is someone who has been able to take on responsibilities."

With strikers Vincenzo Iaquinta and Amauri out injured and Milos Krasic serving the first game of a two-match ban this weekend, Del Piero will lead Juve's attack alongside Fabio Quagliarella.

Krasic, who is Juve's joint top scorer alongside Quagliarella with three goals apiece, was punished for simulation during last weekend's goalless draw at Bologna.

"He is an important player," said Del Piero. "But whoever replaces him will do a good job." Milan head into the encounter two points behind league leaders Lazio. "This game is worth so much," said Nesta. "If you want to win the Scudetto, and we want to, you have to get continuity to results. "We have taken four straight wins heading into this game and this is already a good sign. "To beat Juve gives you a special boost in confidence and that is what we plan to do."

Juve, who lie fifth and trail Milan only by three points, have not lost in their last four league games. The Turin giants welcome back goalkeeper Marco Storari from injury.

AC Milan defender Thiago Silva is available after shaking off a muscular injury that saw him miss last weekend's 2-1 triumph at Napoli. Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is set to start Robinho in support of Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Rossoneri attack.

TEAM NEWS

Milan

Alessandro Nesta, Kakha Kaladze, Marco Borriello, Christian Abbiati and Gennaro Gattuso are out for the season. Daniele Bonera and Luca Antonini are not entirely fit and will miss out as well. A back injury could render goalkeeper Nelson Dida unable to participate, meaning that third-choice ‘keeper Zeljko Kalac could make his first start of the season. It appears that Alexandre Pato may be fit to play and could even start.

Mathieu Flamini returns from a one-match suspension and may return to the right full-back spot he was fielded in prior to his suspension. David Beckham is sitting one yellow card from a suspension after a late challenge last weekend earned him a booking.

Possible Formation (4-3-1-2): Kalac; Flamini, Favalli, Maldini, Zambrotta; Beckham, Pirlo, Ambrosini; Kaka; Pato, Inzaghi

Juventus

The Bianconeri too have many injured players, as Claudio Marchisio, Albin Ekdal, Momo Sissoko, Hasan Salihamidzic, Dario Knezevic and Christian Molinaro are unfit to participate. However, it appears that Nicola Legrottaglie and Giorgio Chiellini will both be fit to play in central defence.

Olof Mellberg and Pavel Nedved are sure to miss out with suspensions, while Amauri, Chiellini, Tiago and Zdenek Grygera are all one booking from a ban.

Possible Formation (4-4-2): Buffon; Zebina, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, De Ceglie; Marchionni, Zanetti, Poulsen, Giovinco; Amauri, Iaquinta

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Milan

Filippo Inzaghi is one of the most in-form players in all of Europe at the moment, as he just continues scoring goals. Kaka has matched his league goal scoring output from last season with fifteen, but won’t be happy to just stop at that. After suffering from injury problems for a large part of this season, he is now back to full fitness.

Juventus

Amauri will receive most of the defensive attention from Milan, and for good reason. He has scored just twelve goals this term and has created many more for his team-mates. While it is not entirely his fault, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has allowed eleven goals in the last five matches. As recently as earlier this season he was called the best goalkeeper in the world, so he needs to start conceding less goals.

Diego Milito returns to the first squad, though he has to start from the bech. A good news for Rafa Benitez's team, because the responsability of the attack fell on Samuel Eto'o. Inter have struggled for goals in the league this term scoring only 10 in their opening eight games and Benitez believes that this is due to the injuries suffered by his team.

Genoa have high ambitions for this season and coach Gian Pero Gasperini found himself under pressure when his side got away to a bad start of the season.

Preview: Blackburn v Chelsea

Soccer Extreme : The proposed takeover of Blackburn is at least giving fans something to talk about other than their problems on the pitch.

Rovers have failed to win at Ewood Park in the league since the opening day of the season and they host Chelsea on the back of a poor performance against fellow strugglers Liverpool.

They have been hampered by injuries and suspensions and those of an optimistic disposition will point to the fact that Rovers have also only lost once at home this term.

But Sam Allardyce's defence will have to be at their most resilient against Chelsea, even if the Premier League champions have failed to find the back of the net in their last two away games.

The continued absence of Frank Lampard for Chelsea has barely been noticed, with the impressive performances of Ramires, Michael Essien and Jon Obi Mikel.

In fact the Chelsea first XI is looking more and more settled with each game and they will head to Lancashire aiming to keep their enviable record against Sam Allardyce's men.

They have lost just once in the Premier League at Ewood Park since 1997 and have won three of their last four league fixtures at Rovers.

Key Match-up: Ryan Nelsen v Didier Drogba. New Zealand defender Nelsen is back after sitting out the last two games with a hamstring strain. His absence was singled out as one of the key reasons Rovers lost against Liverpool and his presence in the back four is key to the side maintaining their reputation for being miserly. But Drogba has shown that he can not only turn on the style to score – as he did against Arsenal – he can mix it with the most robust defences if necessary.

Form guide: Blackburn have been solid if not spectacular at home, with a loss against Arsenal their only defeat so far. But their Monday night stalemate against Sunderland showed they are unlikely to trouble the top-scoring charts come the season's end. Chelsea, meanwhile have not won on the road in the league since early September's trouncing of West Ham. Since then they lost at Manchester City and played out a goalless draw against Aston Villa.

Preview: Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspurs

Soccer Extreme : Tottenham visit Old Trafford bidding to end one of worst records in Premier League football. Spurs, a top four side after finishing in a Champions League qualifying place last season, have failed to win at one of the recognised ‘Big Four’ for 17 years.

Not since August 1993 have Spurs won at the home of one of the Big Four – Arsenal Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United – and that was when Teddy Sheringham scored twice in a 2-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield.

Since then Tottenham have played 67 times at those four clubs and, since the Premier League began they have won just twice at one of the rivals (on May 93, 3-1 at Arsenal and the 2-1 victory at Liverpool) in 72 visits.

United are the only Premier League team yet to lose, a record they have maintained in all competitions and a total of 15 games including the Champions League and Carling Cup. At Old Trafford, they have won 10 points from a possible 12.

Spurs, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last three in the Premier League and manager Harry Redknapp’s team selection will be based not only on this game but next Tuesday’s visit of Inter Milan, in the Champions League, when they need to get at least a draw to maintain hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.

United are still without Wayne Rooney (ankle) but Javier Hernandez, after scoring three goals in his last two games, should lead the attack. Michael Owen (hamstring), Owen Hargreaves (calf), Ryan Giggs (hamstring) and Antonio Valencia (ankle) are also missing.

Spurs test Ledley King (groin) but are still without Vedran Corluka (groin), Michael Dawson (knee), Jermain Defoe (ankle), Jamie O’Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin).

Atletico Madrid Announces Strategic Partnership with Thai Champions Muang Thong United

Soccer Extreme : Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United (pic : fans) yesterday announced a strategic alliance with Spanish side Atletico Madrid. The partnership will see the two teams exchanging players, playing friendly matches together and selling each others merchandise in their stadiums.

Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Gil was in Bangkok to sign the contract with Muang Thong United’s Deputy Chairman Wiluck Lohtong. The ceremony was also witnessed by the Spanish Ambassador, Ignacio Sagaz and FAT Chairman Suwat Liptapanlop.

Gil believes that the arrangement will benefit both teams,

“This is an important day for Atletico Madrid. I want to congratulate Muang Thong United for winning the Thai Premier League for the second consecutive year this is a sign of the good work the club is doing. I think this agreement will have sporting, commercial and economic benefits for both teams. I hope it will encourage more Thai fans to follow the Spanish league and more Spanish fans to follow the Thai league,” he said.

According to Gill his team were so impressed by the reception they received when they travelled to Thailand to play a friendly against the Thai Premier League All Stars team earlier this year that they decided to look into forming a partnership with a Thai team.

Muang Thong United goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchen will be having a trial with Manchester United in January and former Muang Thong United midfielder Yaya Soumahoro has been in extremely impressive form since joining Belgium side Gent earlier thus year.

The arrangement between the two teams could see players like this moving to Atletico Madrid in future with some of the Spanish team’s fringe players moving in the opposite direction.

Atletico Madrid are the reigning Europe League Champions and one of the top teams in Spain but Gil believes that it is possible a Thai player could one day make the move from Muang Thong United to Spain,

“I hope that in the not too distant future we could have a Thai player in our squad,” he said.

Muang Thong United coach René Desaeyere thinks that it is unlikely that any Spanish players would be willing to make the move to Thailand but hopes that some South American players on the periphery of the Atletico Madrid squad might join Muang Thong United before the start of the new season. (Video) Koeln Striker Lukas Podolski Takes Heat For Derogatory Gesture

Soccer Extreme : Koeln striker Lukas Podolski was on cloud nine when he capped a 3-0 victory over 1860 Munich in Tuesday's DFB Pokal second round match. He proceeded to celebrate in raucous fashion, prompting harsh criticism from 1860 striker Benjamin Lauth.

"He's not 18 anymore, he needs to set his mind straight," Lauth told AZ. "If I were to have scored the 3-0 goal, then I would not have run at the visiting fans and provoked them."

Podolski was in fine form on Tuesday, assisting Martin Lanig's opener before netting a late third. It was an important victory for struggling Koeln, but his celebration drew heavy jeers from the 1860 fans. (goal)

Controversy surrounds Paul the octopus’ death

Soccer Extreme : The sea creature, infamous for accurately predicting the results of all Germany's World Cup games, and Spain winning the final, is at the center of a conspiracy theory surrounding his death.

News was announced on Wednesday that Paul had passed away peacefully in his sleep, but while the world mourned the loss of this miraculous creature, a Chinese film-maker has shocked Paul fans by claiming that the cephalopod actually died three months ago!

According to various reports, Jiang Xiao has accused bosses at Paul's former home, the Sea Life Aquarium in Germany, of fooling the public by secretly replacing Paul with a body double.

Jiang says that she is 60-70 percent sure that Paul died in July – two days before the World Cup final – and that no one had noticed because "all octopuses look the same."

Others though believe that Jiang is looking for a little publicity of her own as she is set to release a new film entitled ‘Who Killed Paul the Octopus?’
The movie is about revealing the 'inside story behind the octopus miracle' and Jiang believes staff at Paul's aquarium might be afraid that the 'real' truth about Paul's amazing powers might be revealed.

But staff at the Sea Life Aquarium have dismissed the claims, reiterating that Paul passed away peacefully of 'natural causes.' (yahoo)

Bolton Wanderers Ivan Klasnic arrested and bailed on suspicion of rape

Soccer Extreme : Ivan Klasnic, the Bolton Wanderers striker, has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 17-year-old girl.

Walkout of player in League Seri A

Soccer Extreme : League Serie A threatened walkout of players this year, after negotiations between the players association and the League Serie A deadlock.

The players are still not satisfied with the two items in the collective contract clause established by the Italian League. One clause prohibits a player refuses a transfer when the contract is almost complete. One more thing is, though it was out of contract, the player must still follow the pre-season training with his club.

Last month, the players association and the League Serie A reached an agreement to cancel the strike on 24 and 25 September 2010. However, when the players association asserts, if the new contract is not satisfactory, then they will hold a strike on 30 November.

President of Serie A, Maurizio Beretta, Tuesday (10/26/2010) expects President FIGC (Italian football federation), Giancarlo Abete, hands down, after both sides failed to find agreement on Monday (25/10/2010).

AC Milan defender Massimo Oddo, representing the players association said, the players open for negotiations. However, the League of Serie A as if building a wall to avoid negotiations.

Serie A had a bad experience about the strike players. This action was done in March 1996, when the players protested the implementation of the Bosman law in Italy. (brandimposter)

RIP : Paul the octopus dies, October 26, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Paul the Octopus, who became a World Cup phenomenon after predicting correctly all Germany's matches and the World Cup final, has died.

The news was announced by the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany. The staff said they were "devastated" to learn that Paul had passed away during the night, BBC reports.

"We are consoled b the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here and that the care provided him by our dedicated displays team could not have been better," said Stefan Porwoll, manager of the aquarium, as cited by ESPN.

Stefan Porwoll, the manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany that the tentacled psychic called home, said Paul appeared to have died peacefully of natural causes during the night.

"We are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here and that the care provided for him by our dedicated displays team could not have been bettered," Porwoll said.

Staff at the centre said his death was not entirely unexpected, since common octopuses generally live only a couple of years. "His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself," Porwoll said. "We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine."

He added: "While this may seem a curious thing to do for a sea creature, Paul achieved such popularity during his short life that it may be deemed the most appropriate course of action."

Paul's finest hour was his choice of Spain as winner of the World Cup

Octopuses rarely live beyond two years. Said to have been born in 2008, his death was not unexpected.

Paul gained international fame this summer during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where he correctly predicted all games involving Germany and also picked Spain to win the final over the Netherlands.

Before each game Sea Life staff helped Paul make his prediction by lowering two boxes of food into his tank, one carrying a German flag and the other bearing that of their opponents. The case he opened first was adjudged to be his predicted winner.

Maltese newspaper sorry over Neville column gaffe

Soccer Extreme : The Sunday Times of Malta has been forced to issue an apology to Manchester United defender Gary Neville after his weekly column in the paper was altered by a journalist to contain a dig at arch rivals Manchester City. The comment was subsequently picked up by papers in Britain and republished.

Writing about the Wayne Rooney affair in this week's edition, Neville apparently signed off his piece by saying: "The main thing is that after a difficult week the best outcome was reached for all parties, except perhaps Manchester City." A sly dig at United's rivals, who were rumoured to want to sign Rooney.

The wisecrack did not go unnoticed back home and a number of newspapers in the UK reprinted it, attributing the quote to Neville. However, it seems that the jibe had nothing to do with the veteran defender, and was added by a journalist in Malta who couldn't resist the opportunity to have a pop at City.

In a statement on Monday, the Sunday Times of Malta editor Steve Mallia admitted: "At no point did Gary Neville state the phrase, 'Except perhaps Manchester City'.

"These words were added by the journalist who worked on the column with Mr Neville and were never intended to appear in the printed version of the article. Mr Neville did not utter these words, nor did he allude to Manchester City in any way.

"We apologise unreservedly to Mr Neville for the error and regret the considerable inconvenience it has caused him."

While his apparent remark may have raised a few eyebrows among sportswriters, few would have been shocked by it. Neville is well known for getting under the skin of his opponents and on more than one occasion has found himself in trouble after overstepping the mark during games between United and their biggest rivals.

Earlier this year, during Manchester United's Carling Cup semi-final with City, he was caught up in a touchline spat with former team mate Carlos Tevez and in September last year he was accused of goading City fans after United scored a late winner.

Quite what the City fans make of the latest episode remains to be seen. Neville is already public enemy number one at Manchester City, and despite being the wronged party on this occasion the incident will not soothe relations between the two clubs when they meet on the pitch in two-and-a-half weeks (thefirstpost)

Platini: Goal-line tech is 'PlayStation football'

Soccer Extreme : UEFA president Michel Platini claims that goal-line technology is not needed in soccer, stating it would lead to "PlayStation football."

World governing body FIFA will test possible goal-line systems in the coming months after reversing its stance on the widely-debated issue, but the head of the sport in Europe is not in favor of the prospective changes.

When asked about the potential use of goal-line technology during a visit to the city of Glasgow, the Frenchman referred to the popular video-game console when he told the Scottish FA website: "Then we will have PlayStation football."

Platini, one of the world's top footballers during the 1980s, believes more help should instead be offered to referees, highlighting the use of two extra match officials in this season's Champion's League as a better way forward.

"The referee has to be helped by clubs, fans, players, media and authorities," Platini said on Monday. "It is why we have added two assistants for Champions League games.

"One referee is not enough, not in the modern era where you have 20 cameras."

The 55-year-old also said the high media presence at modern-day games does not help match officials, with television cameras able to instantly see when mistakes have been made by referees.

"It is unfair -- the cameras can see everything but the referee only has one pair of eyes. Every time he makes a mistake, those cameras are there to focus on it.

"It is why for the past 10 years I have asked to change the job of the referee, to help improve the situation and to give the referees better support."

The subject of goal-line technology has long been hotly-debated within football, and the issue came to the fore once again at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa when England's Frank Lampard had a goal not given against Germany despite the ball crossing the line. (cnn)

Preview: Inter Milan v Sampdoria, October 24, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Impressive though it was, a lot of Spurs’ second-half fightback at the San Siro midweek can be put down to Inter complacency - the Serie A champions certainly didn’t exert themselves unduly after the interval.

Online bookmakers are giving away free bets to new customers signing up ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash between Inter and Sampdoria which kicks off in the San Siro at 7.45pm.

Rafa Benitez will be tearing out what’s left of his hair if his team produce a display so insipid against Sampdoria this weekend but I’d prefer to concentrate on what Inter achieved in the opening 45 minutes of their Champions League tie with the North London club.

Even if Spurs had managed to keep their full compliment of players on the pitch, it’s doubtful they would have lived with the passing and movement of Inter’s front six in which veteran Samuel Eto’o was again outstanding.

The Cameroon international is in a rich vein of form and scored twice to add to the winner he notched against Cagliari in last week’s bad-tempered affair in Sardinia but Inter are likely to be without Dejan Stankovic against Sampdoria.

The Serbian midfielder has a calf strain and joins Diego Milito and David Suazo on the treatment table.

Sampdoria arrive at the San Siro on the back of a disappointing Europa League defeat against 10-man Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukraine.

Leading through a first-half goal from Hungarian Vladimir Koman, Doria somehow managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory after the interval, leaving coach ‘Mimmo’ Di Carlo speechless.

The Genoa club have been largely excellent in defence so far in Serie A and also showed a measure of resilience to come from behind and beat Fiorentina with two late goals last week.

Live Stream | Liverpool v Blackburn, October 24, 2010

Soccer Extreme : Online Football Streaming. Watch Liverpool v Blackburn live on your PC for free! Liverpool v Blackburn live stream with English commentary.

Liverpool, 19th in the league table, desperately need a 3pointer. Forget about performance, forget about Torres dilemma, points in the league table is what matters most. The stick that the critics used to beat Liverpool in the past is their inability to win matches after any good European performance( be it home or away). But the situation here demands more than just resilient attitude. Gerrard, Torres & Meireles are certain to feature while Jovanovic will go on left making room for enigmatic Cole to play on the right wing.

Blackburn will test Liverpool with their typical physical presence. Pedersen will be the man to watch out for however lack of goals from their forwards is a major concern for Sam Allardyce. The trio of Diouf, Kalinic & Emerton have produced only 4 goals between them. The boss feels defensive errors are costing them points. So, I don't expect Blackburn to play a free flowing attacking football rather a cautious approach which Liverpool should exploit.

Its not a do or die situation for Liverpool but certainly they just can't afford any more defeats & draws. From the perspective of confidence (team & the fans) & league table Liverpool has to win this home game. If Napoli was the ray of hope for good things ahead then Blackburn might be the turning point in Red's revival. 3 pointer on the cards.

Preview : Tottenham v Everton, October 23, 2010

Soccer Extreme :Tottenham will be seekingtheir third Premier League win on the bounce when they host Everton at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

After a fairly slow start to the campaign, Harry Redknapp's men have picked up the pace of late with consecutive victories over Aston Villa and Fulham.

Spurs enter the clash on the back of a remarkable 4-3 UEFA Champions League defeat at Inter Milan on Wednesday night, during which rising star Gareth Bale knocked in a stunning hat-trick.

Redknapp will no doubt be hoping for more of thesame from Bale if he hands the star winger a run out against the Toffees, while the Spurs boss has been granted another boost with the return of goal-scoring ace Rafael van der Vaart.

Everton, meanwhile, will be heartened by their 2-0 triumph over Liverpool in last Sunday's Merseyside derby, which saw David Moyes' side ascend to 11th in the standings.

However, their last encounter at White Hart Lane back in February ended in 2-1 defeat, leaving the Toffees without a win over their North London rivals since November 2008.

Moyes' men have just two wins to their name so far this season, a statistic they will be keen to improve on against their fifth-placed opponents in the capital.
Return

Van der Vaart is near certain to make Redknapp's starting XI as he returns from suspension for Saturday's clash.

The productive Dutchman sat out Wednesday's European defeat following his red card against FC Twente.

Midfielder Sandro, who is ineligible for the group stages of the Champions League, should also come straight back into the side.

Captain Ledley King and Vedran Corluka (both groin) are still out, Younes Kaboul could return from a hamstring injury, while Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson (both ligament damage), Jamie O'Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are long-term absentees.

Toffees boss Moyes is short of options in midfield for the trip to the capital due to injury, with Leon Osman definitely out and fellow midfielder Mikel Arteta doubtful.

Osman picked up an ankle knock in last weekend's derby and has been ruled out for four to six weeks.

Moyes was already without Marouane Fellaini (hamstring), Jack Rodwell (ankle) and Ross Barkley (broken leg), while Steven Pienaar (groin) and Louis Saha (calf) are struggling for fitness. (skysports)

Possible starting XIs
Tottenham: Gomes, Hutton, Corluka, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Modric, Huddlestone, Jenas, Bale, Van der Vaart, Pavlyuchenko.

Everton: Howard, Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Bilyaletdinov, Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill, Yakubu.

UEFA charges Barca keeper for alleged fake offside whistle to cheat opponent

Soccer Extreme : UEFA charged Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Pinto with improper conduct on Friday for allegedly whistling to fool an FC Copenhagen player into thinking he was offside during a Champions League game.

UEFA said it opened a disciplinary case against Pinto after the Danish club filed a complaint following Wednesday's game in Spain.

Copenhagen forward Cesar Santin was running through on goal in the 26th minute but then stopped believing he heard a whistle. French referee Stephane Lannoy allowed play to continue and did not show Pinto a yellow card for the alleged deception.

Copenhagen trailed 1-0 at the time and eventually lost 2-0.

The club said it informed UEFA and Barcelona and "strongly distanced itself from the episode that is against all principles of fair play and respect for the game and the opponent."

"FC Copenhagen has a principle that games are decided on the turf," the club said on its website.

UEFA rules call for action if a player "violates the basic rules of decent conduct," even if an incident is missed by a referee.

UEFA's disciplinary committee could hear Pinto's case at a meeting scheduled for next Thursday.

The panel can suspend the 34-year-old goalkeeper for at least two European matches if it decides he acted "with the obvious intent to cause any match official to make an incorrect decision."

Pinto was playing his first Champions League game for Barcelona since joining the three-time European champions in January 2008. (google)

Wayne Rooney faces 'Join City and you're dead' threat at Nike shop

Soccer Extreme : Wayne Rooney faced more backlash from Manchester United fans today when another death threat was scrawled on a giant city centre banner. The striker, who wants to quit United, received an angry mob outside his home on Thursday night as enraged supporters reacted to the possibility of him making a sensational move to arch-rivals Manchester City.

The damage caught the eye of shoppers on Friday morning

A group of 40 Manchester United supporters, many wearing balaclavas and hooded tops, have warned the club’s striker Wayne Rooney against any move to arch rivals Manchester City.

According to the Guardian, the group had gathered outside Rooney’s house in Prestbury, Cheshire, with a banner reading “If you join City you’re dead”.

The incident occurred a couple of hours after United released a statement confirming that they had spent the day discussing Rooney’s future.

Passers-by were shocked by the message at the Nike store

“We are aware there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment. I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place, including with the player’s representative,” United Chief Executive David Gill said.

“The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime fans are asked to be patient,” he added. (indianexpress)

Hot Photo's Ileana Tacconelli (10 Pics)

Soccer Extreme : 28-year-old former beauty queen Ileana Tacconeli was working as a teacher at the prestigious San Carlo Catholic High School. Now she can be fired after racy photographs of her were posted on the Internet.

One set of angry parents withdrew their daughter from the school claiming Miss Tacconelli was 'too attractive and a distraction'. Other parents, mostly fathers, say that is ok to let attractive women teach their kids.

Here we've got the photos of Ileana Tacconelli that caused the outrage. Do you also think she is to sexy to be a teacher? I would be the happiest kid in the world if I had a teacher like her.
