Manchester United’s Gary Neville has shrubbery at £7m mansion shaped into 'MUFC’

Soccer Extreme : The Manchester United footballer Gary Neville has risked the wrath of neighbours by having a shrubbery at his £7m mansion shaped into the letters 'MUFC’.

Most footballers like to hide away behind the huge fences that tend to surround their expensive mansions - but not Manchester United club captain Gary Neville.

The Red Devils and England full-back has had a huge hedge installed which spells out his club's initials: MUFC.

And although the topiary is still only in its infancy, when mature it is will be visible on Google Earth.

Hedge fund: Nice to see that Neville's huge wage packet is being put to good use

The imposing structure stands proudly outside the front gate of Neville's huge modern-built country pile in Bolton.

And even the most uninterested passer-by couldn't fail to notice that a footballer lives in the mansion.

The taste-free hedge may delight the 34-year-old but it isn't clear what his wife Emma Hadfield thinks of it.

However, having given birth to the couple's first child - daughter Molly - just two months ago she may have other things on her mind.

Who would live in a house like this? Gary Neville

At least Neville's commitment to his team can't be questioned. The player is rare among his peers for being a one-club man.

He joined Manchester United as an apprentice on leaving school in 1991, and captained the youth side to FA Youth Cup glory in his first season.

He has played for the club ever since, as captain since 2005, appearing for his side 376 times so far.

The personalised hedge isn't the first time the Neville family has been accused of a lapse of judgement.

Last year Gary's younger brother Phil put a huge Versace-themed mansion up for sale.

Highlights of the £4million pile included the golden gates, entwined with the initials P and J, which were also included in the carpet design.

Exclusive : The Referee Sent Off All 18 Players

Soccer Extreme : An Argentinian Primera C match was abandoned last Saturday after all 11 away team players and seven substitutes became involved in a mass brawl with home fans. As riot police intervened, the referee sent off all 18 players.

The incident began midway through the second half last Saturday, with Barracas Bolivar 3–0 up against visitors General Lamadrid. Reacting to taunts and abuse from Barracas fans, three Lamadrid players and four members of staff became involved in a heated dispute, which quickly escalated into brawling. Seeing the events unfolding on the touchline, the entire Lamadrid team dashed over to defend their colleagues, resulting in fighting in and around the stands.

The referee's decision to show red cards to all 11 players and seven substitutes means Lamadrid will now have to play with a team of reserve and youth players in their next match.

Defender Evra slams France fans' attitude

Soccer Extreme : Defender Patrice Evra hit out at French fans on Tuesday saying their repeated boos towards the national team showed a lack of football culture. The Manchester United fullback, who has 17 caps, said he often had the feeling he was playing away when wearing the blue shirt of France on home soil.

"I have been very disappointed by the behaviour of the fans," the 27-year-old told reporters.

"When we play at the Stade de France, I have the impression we are playing away," he said at France's training camp ahead of back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania.

France, third in Euro zone Group Seven, travel to Kaunas on Saturday before hosting Lithuania at the Stade de France next Wednesday.

Raymond Domenech's side were booed off the pitch after a goalless draw at the Stade de France against Uruguay and a 2-0 defeat by Argentina at Marseille's Stade Velodrome last month.

"When (Carlos) Tevez came back from Marseille, he told me he had had the feeling he was playing in Buenos Aires," added Evra.

"There were flags paying tribute to Maradona but at the Stade de France I did not see any flags for (Franck) Ribery or (Thierry) Henry.

"I don't understand. The fans should be behind us. When you play at the Stade de France, you often hear boos after only five minutes, it has to stop.

"Maybe they don't like football."

Evra, who joined United from Monaco in January 2006, said this would not happen at Old Trafford, where the champions were beaten 4-1 by arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League title race 10 days ago.

"When we lost, there was applause, not boos," he said.

"It's a matter of culture. French people don't have the (football) culture that Brazilian, Argentine or English fans have."

Ronaldo’s new hobby watch collection (pic)

Soccer Extreme : Cristiano Ronaldo has found a new way to indulge his passion for diving: Collecting luxury watches, including waterproof ones. Man United’s Portuguese winger reportedly already owns several, including a £70,000 Franck Muller timepiece.

Now he is looking at investing in Rolex and Cartier numbers, and timepieces from Breitling and club-sponsor Hublot.

An Old Trafford source revealed: “Ronnie is becoming more mature with his money and, although he loves cars, he now wants items which hold value.

“He has been told how some watches increase in value over time and he has developed a great eye for these things.

“A few of the United lads compete over cars and watches, but Ronnie always seems to be one step ahead.”

Galliani attacked by Ultras

Soccer Extreme : Napoli Ultras attacked Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani and trashed his car as he left the San Paolo last night. Galliani had just watched Milan draw 0-0 with Napoli and was on his way to the airport when his car was stopped by around 50 Ultras.

The Ultras refused to let him pass and began to throw stones at his car, breaking a window and prompting his police escort to call for back up.

Fears for Galliani's safety increased when the car got a puncture, leaving it even more exposed to attacks.

Galliani did reach the airport in time, though. He boarded the plane chartered by Milan and discussed the game with Carlo Ancelotti.

Napoli fans were aggrieved when Marek Hamsik had a valid goal disallowed for offside after 37 minutes.

Tensions rose throughout the game and a Molotov cocktail was thrown at Milan fans. Luckily it failed to explode.

Analysis

The UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw - covered LIVE on Goal.com - threw up four ties comprising the eight remaining clubs. We'll look at each in turn.

Villarreal VS Arsenal
Gunning For It

Last Meeting: Villarreal 0-0 Arsenal, El Madrigal. Champions League semi-finals. April 26, 2006.
Bookies' Favorite: Arsenal

The only time these two sides have ever met in competition was at such a dizzying height - for both clubs - in the form of the 2006 Champions League semi-final.

Villarreal were without doubt the overwhelming underdogs and that pressure proved to tell, when star player Juan Roman Riquelme had a chance to take the tie to extra time but had a poor late penalty saved by Jens Lehmann. Arsenal went on to lose the final to Barcelona.

Now, both teams have changed. Villarreal have continued their steady progression. Arsenal have completely removed themselves from the 'Invincibles' era and are a team that can perform from the sublime to the ridiculous. On the big stage, more often than not, they have come through this season. They are worthy favourites in what is sure to be a tight and tactical tie. The Gunners will win the day at the Emirates.

Manchester United VS Porto

Revenge

Last Meeting: Manchester United 1-1 Porto, Old Trafford. Champions League quarter-final, March 9, 2004.
Bookies' Favorite: Manchester United
And this, this is the mother of all rematches. We all know how Jose Mourinho hopped, skipped, jumped and slid down the Old Trafford touchline after his side snuck a late equaliser that put them through to the quarters at that time. They went on to win the competition.

Their performance and tactics against the Red Devils were lambasted and the English side bemoaned a wrongfully disallowed goal, but since, Mourinho has gone on to prove it was no fluke. Porto, meanwhile, have continued to dominate domestically but cannot make a dent on the continent.

United's progression since then has been outstanding. Now it is they who are the champions and they look to have the most well-rounded, united and best-drilled squad in Europe. Few would bet against them exorcising their demons.

Liverpool VS Chelsea

Fifth Time, Unlucky

Last Meeting: Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea, Anfield. Premier League, February 1, 2009.
Bookies' Favorite: Tie!
With United-Porto being the mother of all ties, this is the great, great, great, great grandfather: we cannot believe it's not dead yet. UEFA have yet again contrived to pair the two rigid English juggernauts in the Champions League for the fifth year in a row.

Liverpool have the edge. They won more convincingly to get to this stage, they've done the double over the Blues domestically this season and they've won more of the head-to-heads in this competition in the past five years.

What Chelsea have on their side is that they may actually be the underdogs this time - as they were under Avram Grant last year - which proved to be just what they needed to kill off their Red demons: to be written off beforehand.

This will not be a tie for spectacle. It never has been. Drama will be of the highest order in this all-English clash and the winner will fancy their chances of going all the way.

Barcelona VS Bayern Munich

Goals, Goals, Goals

Last Meeting: Barcelona 1-2 Bayern Munich, Camp Nou. Champions League group stage, November 4, 1998.
Bookies' Favorite: Barcelona
This is the only tie of the round that doesn't have a recent history. You have to go back over 10 years to find their last meeting: in the Champions League group stage, with Bayern winning at Camp Nou.

Bayern have never lost to Barcelona in European competition, but times are changing. The Blaugrana are now a genuine European superpower while the Bavarian giants have, in recent years, slipped off the radar ever so slightly.

But now, they are back. What's more, they are joint-top scorers in the competition along with Barcelona. They recorded the biggest aggregate win in the competition's history in the last round against Sporting Lisbon. It may not have been the stiffest of opposition, but Bayern's ruthlessness was worthy of considerable admiration. They are exactly the type of team that could punish a slightly leaky Barca defence.

But then, who can mention this tie without remembering the Three Musketeers up front for Pep Guardiola's men. Three of the best forwards in the world: the champion Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto'o in his prime and Lionel Messi, an all-time great in the making. Then there is Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Dani Alves and youngster Bojan Krkic. This is the only team outside of England to capture world imagination and they will be looking to prove why in this mammoth encounter.

And Beyond...

The semi-finals look like they may put together another familiar tie or two, as well. The winners of United-Porto will play the winners of Villarreal-Arsenal, which, according to the bookies, would give us a United-Arsenal semi. The Gunners have the most recent bragging rights over their domestic rivals and they have had some classic encounters over the past decade.

Porto and Arsenal also met in the group stages of this competition and exchanged victories, while United and Villarreal have shared four goalless draws in their only meetings in competitive football - an outstanding statistic.

Then there is the international semi-final, which has no chance of being a tie all of one country. It will be either Barcelona or Bayern against Chelsea or Liverpool. If Barcelona go through, we're sure to get an emotional encounter against one of two English teams against whom they have recent history. A Barca-Chelsea clash in particular would evoke memories of the Frank Rijkaard-Ronaldinho Blaugrana that won the competition in 2006, while Liverpool in fact felled Barca in the following year in what was a huge upset.

Bayern, on the other hand, met Chelsea in a quarter-final full of goals from which the Blues emerged victorious, but have not met Liverpool in recent history. What we can be assured, though, is that if the Bavarians make it past the second-favorites, when coming up against either of these two English sides, they will put up one hell of a fight. Germans know how to win in a knockout scenario as well as anyone.

Then comes Rome, and the final. It's so near, yet so far. All eight clubs remaining have made their credentials clear so far, but there is room for just two. Who will it be?

Manchester City star Elano leaves cheeky note on Robinho's £130,000 car

Soccer Extreme : Manchester City prankster Elano discovered Robinho's flash car parked outside a hotel and left a cheeky message for his team-mate. Robinho, City's British record signing, had parked his £130,000 Lamborghini Gallardo outside the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester, but missed out on his fellow Brazilian's note because the wind had blown it away.

Sportsmail's eagle-eyed photographer, however, was able to capture the message before it blew off.

Elano had scribbled 'SAFRADO' which is Portuguese slang for 'dirty minded' or 'shameless'.

During Robinho's spell at Real Madrid, reports alleged that the 25-year-old once asked his bodyguard to purchase him 40 condoms before a night on the town.

The Brazilian denied the allegations.

Cristiano Ronaldo's mum claims he's no womaniser

Soccer Extreme : Cristiano Ronaldo’s mum has rubbished claims that her football megastar son is a womaniser – despite reports saying he has already claimed seven conquests so far this year.

Proud Dolores Aveiro (54) said the Man Utd winger has only ever introduced two women to her - Merche Romero and Nereida Gallardo. But there have been plenty of reports of the European and World Player of the Year getting it on with sexy ladies.

Who is right about Cristiano?

Dolores said he is a good person who is being misinterpreted by the media: “If I believed what other people say, he has been with more than 100 and he is a womaniser.

“But I know that it is not true. When he likes a girl and the relationship is serious, he presents her to his family.”

According to the ‘Mirror’, Ronaldo (24) was said to be back in the arms of Brazilian playboy actress Karina Bacchi (32) after their fling in the summer of 2007.

And he dated Spanish beauty Nereida after meeting her in Majorca as he celebrated his 23rd birthday in a club, having previously gone out with Portuguese TV girl Merche.

The Portugal star seems to have had a string of sexy ladies - he was last week linked to a Brazilian gym instructor called Gabi.
